Inclusion & Diversity Statement for IAGS2024

The Association of Applied Geochemists (AAG) is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment that welcomes and values individuals from all backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives. We firmly believe that a diverse community brings forth a multitude of ideas, experiences, and talents that are vital for advancing the field of Applied Geochemistry.

We strive to create a Symposium that promotes equal opportunities and encourages the participation of individuals irrespective of their race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, (dis)ability, or socioeconomic status for the 30th International Applied Geochemistry Symposium (IAGS) in Adelaide, Australia. We are dedicated to ensuring that everyone feels safe, respected, and included throughout the Symposium.

This statement sets out: measures to enhance equity, diversity and inclusion; expected behaviours; and consequences.

Our commitment to inclusion and diversity extends to all aspects of the Symposium, including speaker selection, session topics, and conference activities. We actively seek out speakers and panellists who represent a broad range of perspectives and backgrounds, as we believe this enriches the dialogue and leads to more comprehensive and innovative solutions.

To support our commitment to inclusion and diversity, we will provide accessibility accommodations to ensure that individuals with disabilities can fully participate in the Symposium.

Furthermore, we will actively engage with underrepresented communities and organisations to promote diversity in the field of Applied Geochemistry. We recognise the importance of nurturing talent from all backgrounds and ensuring that everyone has equal opportunities for career advancement and professional development.

We encourage all attendees to engage in constructive and respectful discussions, embracing the diversity of ideas and perspectives presented. By fostering an environment that values open dialogue, we aim to facilitate collaboration and the exchange of knowledge among participants, regardless of their individual backgrounds.

We expect all participants, including speakers, attendees, sponsors, and staff, to adhere to our code of conduct, which promotes a culture of respect, inclusivity, and professional behaviour. We will also implement measures to prevent any form of discrimination, harassment, or micro-aggressions during the event.

We understand that fostering a truly inclusive and diverse Symposium requires ongoing efforts and a commitment to continuous improvement. We welcome feedback and suggestions from participants to help us create a more inclusive and equitable event for future symposia.

Together, let us celebrate our differences, learn from one another, and work towards a future where diversity and inclusion are not just goals but integral parts of our scientific community.

Signed,

The Organising Committee of the International Applied Geochemistry Symposium 2024
